Zach Hodgson

Technical Director / Scenic Designer

As an artist, my objective is to artfully showcase the inherent beauty of nature through my work and designs. The organic life of our world form dynamic structures and beautiful images for the visually compelling settings I seek to create. Nature shows a spectrum of emotions from the strength of an oak tree to the chaotic energy of white water rapids to the delicate descent of a petal as it falls to the ground. I utilize elements of nature to bring life to the stage while concurrently fostering environmental awareness. Nature functions as a catalyst for the creation of innovative structures and solutions to problems in the construction process. Studying nature's mechanics I endeavor to unlock fresh perspectives and possibilities within the realms of design and construction.

My love for theatre started at a young age when I saw Wicked at the Des Moines Civic Center. The changes in the set were  memorizing as I watched the performance. My love for theatre grew as I helped with High School productions. This led to pursuing a degree in Performing Arts with an emphasis in Theatrical Design and Technology at Iowa State University. While in college, I enjoyed working in the scene shop as a carpenter and spending my summers working at Summer Stocks. In that capacity, I was a Carpenter at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival and the Assistant Technical Director at the Clinton Area Showboat Theatre. In my free time, I enjoys skiing, cosplay, table top games, cooking, and spending time with family.
